I’ve seen it on the playground: when kids connect to share their sand toys or add roles to their pretend games. I’ve seen it at the campground: when campers connect to share their limited resources for a better, more social camping experience. I’ve seen it in the boating community: a barter system where fishermen trade a good catch for a cold drink. For me, online connecting takes the form of Twitter, a mom forum, and KaBOOM! Connect.
My online connecting led to some really great resource-building this week. I want to share!
- KaBOOM! invited me to write a guest blog for them. They posted Overcoming Barriers to Play on Tuesday, March 10th. That one small event led to connections with some amazing advocates for play.
- Bethe Almeras (@balmeras on Twitter) reinvented herself this week as the Grass Stain Guru after co-founding the National Wildlife Federation’s “Green Hour: The parent’s place for nature, play and learning.”
- The Therapeutic Landscapes Database Blog is run by Naomi Sachs, ASLA (@healinggarden on Twitter). She wrote a link-filled post about the Importance of Play.
- Mara Kaplan (Let Kids Play) took the initiative to contact me and we are now connecting as friends on KaBOOM! Connect. She “founded and operated a playspace for children with and without disabilities for 13 years.”
