Pittsford Park: Yield for Traffic Signs on the Accessible Red Playground

by Michele

Pittsford Park

Pittsford Park added a universally accessible playspace – completed in October 2008. It’s brilliant red with even the upper levels accessible to wheelchairs. A cars/roadway theme provides little people with stop and yield signs and a trike course.

Location: From the 405, take the El Toro Road exit and follow it away from the ocean. Pass Trabuco Road and turn left on Northcrest Drive. Take the first right on Pittsford. [Address: 21701 Pittsford Drive, Lake Forest]  MAP to Pittsford Park in Lake Forest

Highlights:

  • Most popular: cube stack and sand play area (bring sand toys)
  • 4-child teeter-totter with seat backs
  • Tons of swings for all types and ages of users
  • Trike track with street signs
  • Lots of play space for all ages and abilities

Be Aware:

  • Crowded at times and the usual fall dangers with the very high structures (for the really little ones)

Checklist:

  • On street parking
  • Recycled rubber play surface (ramps down to bark play surface)
  • Restrooms near playspace by tennis courts
  • Drinking fountain in center of playspace with wheelchair access
  • Shade under picnic gazebo
  • Red benches throughout for viewing kids
  • Nice picnic gazebo above playspace with grill
  • Another picnic area with no shade
  • Tennis courts and grass volleyball
  • Double the Adventure blog coverage of Pittsford Park

First, I would also tell you how nice and beautiful Pittsford Park
turned out after the new make-up. I’m not playing there anymore, I’m retired and go often with my grandkids in the park.
There is just one thing that is irritating me; with all the activities going on there, there is still that triangle construction
thing standing over the place where a long time ago a water fountain used to be. Eventhow the old fountain not working(!)was sitting there for I don’t know how long before it was taken away… Since then there are tons of children and family members playing around every weekend – but still – no water fountain – eventhow the computer home page tells that there is a waterfountain in the park. So, how long do we have to wait till something is going to be done. But then again, maybe you are all too busy with more important thigs.
I would love to hear from somebody in charge of the park.

Sharlene

I love the new and improved Pittsford Park. Looking forward to snow day!
